VANISHING OF THE BEES

Bees are dying in their millions, due to a scientific mystery known as Colony Collapse Disorder. They pollinate a third of the food we eat, contributing £200 million a year to the UK economy. And without them, mankind is doomed.

Understandably, we were keen to raise awareness of this terrifying problem, so we jumped at the chance of publicizing the shocking and eye-opening film, Vanishing of the Bees.

The dramatic documentary investigates the problem and covers the massive and controversial differences of opinion among scientists, farmers, beekeepers and government agencies.

So we set about getting this important film out to the masses, by teaming up with the film makers and The Co-operative's Plan Bee, a 10 point plan to reverse the decline of the bee population.

And we enlisted a galaxy of stars to back the cause and created a new star along the way, in the striped form of our very own Mr Bee.

Liam Gallagher threw his support behind us and filmed a piece with Mr Bee, about the importance of the humble insects. This story made page three of The Sun, follow-up pieces in The Sun, The Guardian and the Daily Mirror and was covered by hundreds of magazines, websites, TV and radio shows around the world.

Ricky Gervais also met up with our bee mascot to back the cause. And Aldo Zilli, Rowland Rivron, Sian Lloyd, Todd Carty and Sean Dingwall were queuing up to have their photographs taken with him at the movie's glitzy premiere at London's May Fair Hotel.

We also made some touching viral campaigns featuring our furry star, about the last honeybee's final day on earth.

This captured the imaginations of wildlife lovers David Bellamy and Barry Humphries , who personally painted us some exquisite pictures to help raise awareness of the film.

See below for examples of the campaign.
